Colonoscopic Polypectomy

Abstract
Progress of endoscopic diagnosis along with newly developed instruments has now made it possible to excise colonic polyp by means of high-frequency generator. We have used Machida HC-80L with mixed wave type (cutting and coagulation current), and this method is best indicated for polyps either pedunculated or sub pedunculated.
For recent 2 years, fourteen colonic polyps ranging from 0.3-3.0cm. in size were removed safely via colonoscope and histologically examined. Three polyps were inflammatory, 1 nonspecific granuloma and 10 were adenomas. Among these adenomas, one showed evidence of focal carcinoma limited to the head of the polyp. Focal cancer which was considered as early cancer did not metastasize and was required no treatment other than polyp removal. There were no grave complications except mild abdominal pain in 5 cases and spotted bleeding at the cut site in 2 cases.
Long-term follow-up of patients with adenoma was recommended in terms of detecting second neoplastic lesions as early as possible. The value of colonoscopic polypectomy as complete biopsy, treatment of colonic polyps and early diagnosis of colon cancer was stressed.
